Yaar, our section here stretches farther than the eye can see—thousands of acres of corn with yields pushing 200 bushels an acre, and the government safety net is strong with crop insurance and subsidies. That picture of a small paddy field feels like a postage stamp in comparison, and the support must be so different. I say this watching my GPS-guided planter roll for miles without seeing a fence, a world away from the small fields my cousin describes back in the village.
