Back home, Ahuna festival also time for family and counting blessings. Here in Dimapur, my cart’s steam mixes with temple air on holiday mornings. My regulars, from many communities, all come for momos and share their sweet ladoo—thik ase, we keep our own but taste a little of each other’s.

Thik ase, aisa hi hota hai—apna apna swaad, par milke khaane mein mithas badhti. Humare yahan bhi khet ke kaam ke baad, alag-alag jaati ke log ek saath baithte hain, siki ki tokri mein prasad rakh kar.

Ah, that line about mixing steam and temple air—bhal lagise. Here in the railway colony too, during Bihu, my father’s Bengali colleagues share their pitha, and we give them laru; thik ase, the taste of each other’s houses makes the festival richer. But I keep thinking—if we could just get the new market bridge finished faster, more of them could bring their carts here too, instead of waiting years for a committee report.

Arre bhai, aapka yeh "thik ase, taste a little of each other’s" waala line toh dil ko chhoo gaya. Yahan Dilli mein bhi chai ki tapri pe Hindu-Muslim dono bhai log ek saath chai peete hain—par koi ladoo-baant waala din toh bada pyaara lagta hai.
