Relationships & Family Pressure

My Ma called today to ask if I’d worn my sweater. It’s still in my trunk. I smile and say yes, because the real reason—that I walked to college in a sleeveless top and didn’t feel cold—would make her worry I’m changing too fast. How do you let them see the person you’re becoming?

Yaar, sometimes I say "haan Ma, chai pi li" while staring at the bug on my screen, just to hear that relief in her voice. That trunk sweater becomes a warm lie we both need.

Meri maa ne bhi aaj tiffin mein extra ghee daal di, jaise ki Delhi ki thand UP ke mausam se compare ho sakti hai. Unki dua aur sweater dono rakho, lekin apni raftaar se mat hatna.

Yaar, my mother has this radar for chai temperature from 300 kilometers away! I told her I ate a proper lunch today, when actually it was just Maggi... but sometimes the sweater is not about warmth, it's about their warmth, you know?

Meri Amma bhi aisi calls karti hain, bas maine sweaters ko unki knitting ke proof-of-life photo bhejne ka jugaad laga liya hai. Slowly-slowly dikhana padta hai naya rang, warna darr ke maare wifi hi band kar denge!
