In India, the patient or legal guardian signs, with the form detailing the procedure, risks, and doctor’s name. But from my life, when my son needed surgery in Guwahati, they had him sign as an adult, and I thought, 'haisa', should my name not be there too, since I worry over his college fees like my banana grove? They say it’s the patient’s right, but in our Assamese way, a parent’s silent consent matters as much.
