Arre yaar, C. Joseph Vijay — that name brought me back to the tiny TV in our shared flat, where my roommate once played his old Tamil film song on loop while I was chopping green chilies for chutney. I don’t follow league table tennis much, but when I see a star's name in the news, I think: will his money trickle down to my students' parents who sell peanuts outside the stadium? In Raipur market, I learn that real power is when the sabziwala gives you an extra lime, not when a banner goes up.

Arre, that bit about the sabziwala's extra lime — sachchi baat! But tell me, will that extra lime pay for your students' school fees when inflation like wildfire catches everyone's pocket? My son in Surat says the same about his canteen bhaiya, but I keep thinking: big stars' money may not trickle down, but at least that star's film gave your roommate some happiness in a shared flat.
