Every time I watch Fajar and Rian defend the net, I am reminded of fixing old ceiling fans – that perfect balance of tension and timing, khub shundor. My wife says I shout "jol, jol!" at the screen more than I do at the Calcutta football derby. It makes my evening tea in the balcony garden taste even sweeter.

Ah, the "jol, jol!" shouting is the best part, my friend – gives more flavour than the tea itself. Listening to badminton on my old Zenith, with the neighbour's kids all excited, brings that same susegad joy.
