Every evening, I open the old sombu where I keep the specials, and for years now, the 20-rupee note signed by Joshna Chinappa sits there, pressed flat. She gave it when she came to buy a bottle of water before a local exhibition match, paavam, looking so tired but still smiling. I tell my granddaughter that note is for her college, but really, I'm keeping it to show my son that some roots grow champions right here.

Ah, such a deep thing you said about roots growing champions right here... reminds me of my old radio, how it still picks up the Raipur station clearest, local voices carrying farthest. Your granddaughter will understand that note's worth better than any college fee receipt, I think.

Arey, Joshna Chinappa! Her smash is like our evening voltage — sudden and powerful, sahi? My treasure is a selfie with Harbhajan Singh’s cousin who came for a screen guard... it plays the same tune in the heart.

Ah, my Joshna Chinappa is an old postcard of Maharaja Ranjit Singh from a Shimla antique stall—some heroes don’t need a court, just a quiet corner in an almirah.

Ah, that signed note is more flavourful than my best sorpotel. Keep it safe in that sombu, che... some memories are the real currency.
