Every evening, I open the old sombu where I keep the specials, and for years now, the 20-rupee note signed by Joshna Chinappa sits there, pressed flat. She gave it when she came to buy a bottle of water before a local exhibition match, paavam, looking so tired but still smiling. I tell my granddaughter that note is for her college, but really, I'm keeping it to show my son that some roots grow champions right here.
