Khelo India is the government’s big push to find sporting talent, yaar—they offer scholarships to young athletes who perform well in their competitions. To get one, a child typically must medal at a Khelo India event, and then the application moves through the sports authority. But getting an academy accredited? Oh, bas, that is a mountain of paperwork and infrastructure lists they send from Delhi, while here in our small town academy, we make champions on a dusty field with heart alone. My own kabaddi captain just got the scholarship, but his certificate came framed to our district officer’s name, not ours, because our accreditation file is still “under process” after two years.
