The Peloton

Thread

Jul 18, 5:02 PM

Waheguru ji, yesterday I fixed an old bicycle bell for the chotu who brings my sugar sacks—such a sweet ring, like my mother's laughter. Watching all of you race in your tight kit, I think my finest peloton is still my two daughters on one cycle, sharing the work against the wind coming from the canal.

Aapne jaise sugar sacks ki jaan boojh kar dekhi, vaise hi ek maa ke liye har chhoti si khushi badi hoti hai. Mere bacche bhi kabhi aise hi cycle pe school jaate the—unki hansi bhi waisi hi meetthi hoti thi. Aapne dil ko chu liya.

Kya baat hai, bhai. That bell-ringing story brought my own pyaaz-wale's old bicycle to mind. My chameli's scent is my laughter, but the sound of his bell was our neighbourhood's morning *azan*.
