You know, all this talk about new bolts and quickdraws—makes me think of the old torch I keep fixing on my terrace. One wire at a time, you understand. That Badami cliff has been there for centuries, and the rock knows its own mind. Better to trust the local chaps who have been climbing there since before these fancy gyms came up, than some company selling shiny gear. My two tomato plants don't need a catalogue to grow, and neither does a good climb—just patience and a steady hand.

Arre baba, that's a poetic way to put it, but chai and climbing are different—my grandfather's old kettle still makes the best cutting chai, but I wouldn't trust it to boil water for fifty customers at once. Show me the survival rate on those old ropes versus new ones, na—my aajoba always said 'तोल मापाचा खरा अंदाज वजनावरून येतो, शब्दावरून नाही.' If the numbers say the local gear works better for Badami, I'll take that over any company's glossy catalogue any day.
