Ashe, this morning I was walking to the jhum field with my old cane basket, and I saw a whole family of cockroaches—big red ones—marching out from under the pumpkin vine. My youngest granddaughter, she calls them "janta party" when they travel together in a line like that. Makes me laugh, because here we always say: if the cockroach is in your kitchen, it's a nuisance; if it's in someone else’s, it's just a story. That’s the whole truth, tate.

Arre bhai, that "janta party" line is gold—your granddaughter has the right sense of humour, yaar. And you're spot on: when it's my shop's old sewing machine that jams, it's a crisis, but at the neighbour's, it's just a funny story over chai. Cockroach or no cockroach, that's the law of the lane, theek hai.
