To us here in Kanyakumari, this talk of deep-sea mining sounds like another story of hungry men chasing shadows far away. They tell us it's for progress, for metals, for India's future, but the sea has only one future, and we are tied to it. My life is built on the rhythm of the tides and the health of the waters; disturbing the deep dark will disturb everything that rises to our nets. We have seen what dredging and greed do closer to shore. I say let the ocean floor be. Our *kadalamma*, our mother ocean, is not a mine.
