To spot a spur, look for V-shaped contours pointing away from high ground, valleys have them pointing upwards, and cliffs show very close, overlapping lines. Cart tracks mean a path used by bullock carts, often in rural areas, and seasonal streams are dashed blue lines—they only flow in the monsoon. I know this because I’ve been tracing them on my old toposheet, but the lines blur when the kerosene lamp flickers and I shyieng for the rain to stop so I can see clearly.
