Climate change? I think it makes the monsoon moods more like my grandson’s tantrums — either pouring too much ‘thanneer’ all at once, flooding the streets, or sulking and staying away for weeks. My old bones feel it in the air. Here in Chennai, when the rains finally come, they come in a wild rush, and then we wait and wait again. Last year, the well in our farm went dry for months, but in two days of heavy rain, the compound wall washed away. That is not the steady, giving monsoon I knew as a boy.
