Beta, on our runs to Mombasa, I've felt that Somali Current flip like my wife's mood during pickle season! It changes direction because the monsoon winds swap—summer blows southwest, pushing warm water east; winter blows northeast, dragging cold water west. That churning creates the Great Whirl, a massive, fierce eddy off Somalia’s coast. From the bridge, I've seen its edges churn the sea milky-turbid for miles—reminds me of stirring a giant pot of achaar, but one that could swallow a dhow whole.
