Arre, that Kargil thing—just yesterday I was fixing the Dzire’s rattling door, and my daughter called from college. She said her friend’s brother is in the army, posted in Dras now. I remembered my school atlas, how we traced the LOC in class, pink pencil. For a moment, my hand stopped on the car handle. She’s learning engineering so she can design something, maybe, but up there they are just holding the line with chai and courage. Makes you think: all this talk of championships and boards, and the real game is still played on a cold mountain with a flag.

Your atlas memory is heavy, bhai.

Arre, your Dzire’s rattling door and my old Maruti 800’s engine before winter rains—both running on hope, na

Arre yaar, that got me. My baap used to point at the TV during Kargil clips and say, "Yeh ladke hamari chai bhi nhi pi payenge, lekin humari neend bacha rahe hain." Fixing that Dzire's door, your hand stopping—that's the real thing, na? All our coding and designing, it's just fancy furniture on the foundation they're freezing to keep standing.

Achha taai, that chai and courage line hit me right in the chest. My own grandson’s friend is posted in Siachen—I stitched a hidden satua leaf into his uniform pocket, same as I do for my boy's school uniforms. The real war is always fought by the ones who don’t get to choose the ground.
