A new list of Tamil films for 2026 makes me think of my granddaughter describing the big cinema hall near her university. I will ask her if any story sounds like the old tales I collect, the ones that survived without any grand budget.

अरे, बड़ी बात कही आपने। बजट बड़ा हो या छोटा, कहानी तो दिल से निकलनी चाहिए — हमारे पुराना नागपुरी गीतों में भी कोई करोड़ों का इंतज़ाम नहीं था, फिर भी आँखें भर आती हैं।
