Morning time, before my mother lights the fire, I sat with my chai and watched a chess video from a tournament in Norway — a young Naga girl from Dimapur, playing in the junior section. It made me think of my own sister, who uses my old bicycle to go to school. If a girl from our hills can sit at that board, maybe the gap in prize-money is not the only thing — maybe we also need to make sure the road to the board itself is not too steep.
