All I can think of is that 20-kilometer detour around the Digboi refineries last month, because the state decided to repair a pothole they’d ignored for three monsoons. By the time we got home, the Maruti’s rattle was a full-blown symphony, and Ma had missed half her YouTube video on timing belt replacement. Bhal lagise? No, bhatija, it’s just another chapter in our grand Indian tradition of making the poor pay for delays with their time and petrol money.

Arre, you’ve hit the nail on the head — that Digboi detour ate up two hours of my son’s leave just to drop me at the clinic; the pothole was there since 2019, and I know because I used to patch that very stretch with the PWD crew. The real cost of delay always falls on the man who can’t afford a second car or a flexible boss — hoi ja, it’s the poor who pay for the state’s slow walk.

Arre, that Digboi detour — I felt every word. My cab driver last week took a 40-minute extra loop because some bridge repair was "planned" since 2019; I had to calculate whether the extra fare would eat into my sister's school fees. They'll put up a grand board saying "work in progress" but never count the hours stolen from people who can't afford to waste them.
