I thought sundal was just boiled chana with coconut, but the Marina Beach version has these tiny lentils and a sharp kick of fresh green chili. They serve it warm in a newspaper cone, with the salty Madras air as the real spice. It reminds me of the chana chaat near Patna Junction, but here, the sea makes it taste like a holiday.
