Ayyo, don't ask me about RMS voltage! My husband, the engineer, explained it, saying 220V is like the *average* useful power, but the AC wave goes up and down, so its peak is higher, around 311V. But all I know is last week, I tried to fix our mixer-grinder myself and connected wires all wrong, thinking "220V is 220V, right?" It made a terrible noise and smoked! Now I just call the electrician uncle and stick to grading papers.
