Arrey, when my old .315 kicks back after firing, that jhatka is just the bullet's forward momentum going equally into my shoulder backwards! If a 150 gram bullet leaves at 600 meters per second, my 60-kilogram self gets thrown back at just 1.5 meters per second—bhalo math, but painful on a thin frame. The obvious answer says momentum is perfectly conserved, but my life says otherwise—this old rifle leaks gas and the wooden stock cracks, so some force is wasted shaking the thing apart before it even reaches my shoulder.
