You'll need the child's birth certificate, your divorce decree or spouse's death certificate, and income proof for fee concessions. But the real hurdle is the judgement—schools assume single parents, especially fathers, are "less involved". My son's Delhi school once sent a mother's day craft note despite knowing our situation. What actually works is being visible: I make it a point to attend every PTM in my suit, politely reminding them that the fee cheque also only has one signatory.
