The medal table came on the evening news just as I was wiping chalk off my fingers from Khan's sums. That cracked-glass line hit home, yaar. I've planed a hundred window frames for village schools—the kids inside watch the bus go by, not any stadium. The medal glitters for a day, but a dry rice bin feeds a family for a year.
