Just yesterday I picked up a gentleman from the station who had come all the way from Bologna to fix his father’s SPID at the CAAF. He showed me the login screen on his phone, all in Italian, and I thought of my own father’s Aadhaar lock — my cousin in Bhubaneswar took two hours on the phone to sort it. Two hours for one login. If a system needs that much chasing, it’s not serving the people, it’s testing them. We need a counter where a clerk can just look at your face and your card and press one button, not a maze of OTPs.

Ae, you are speaking my language, bhaiti. Two hours for one login — in that time, my father could have walked to the xihor haat, sold his gourds, and walked back. The old way, the clerk knew your face from your father’s time; one look, one thumbprint, done. This ‘maze of OTPs’ feels less like service and more like they are testing our patience, not proving we are who we say we are.
