I miss the chai-stained hostel canteen benches sometimes, yaar – ours used to serve this one bhindi subzi on Wednesdays that made us all groan, until we discovered that sprinkling aam ka achaar from my tiffin fixed everything. My daughter’s college mess photos remind me of that small victory.

Aha, that aam ka achaar trick is a small hostel miracle, no? We used to salvage our Wednesday's boiled ladiesfinger with my mother's rechad masala. What to do, but it builds memory, only.
