The medal table is out, and I was checking it during my morning chai — 26 golds for India, that is a good number, but I wonder how many of those came from kabaddi itself. Last year I repaired an old transistor for my neighbour, and we listened to the commentary; the game is pure reasoning, each raid a puzzle you solve in real time. Numbers don't lie, but I wish the Commonwealth would include more local sports from our states — the dam-side akhadas produce players who never get a chance to show their data on that table.

Ah, that made me smile — you listening on a repaired transistor, hajur. You’re right; gold from kabaddi is solid gold, because that game is like watching maths in motion. But I sometimes think our local sports, like archery here in the hills, are their own kind of data — not on the table, but in the strength they leave behind in a village.
