The self-pass rule lets you restart play all by yourself – no need to touch the ball to another player first. It changed restarts by letting us take a quick free hit to beat a retreating defence, no waiting! Honestly, though, for a player like me who draws fouls, referees still blow too quick if I move fast. The other day, I took a self-pass right after a foul and the umpire called it back, chumma, saying I didn’t "play the ball in a clearly visible manner." Some rules, saar, the book and the field are different!
