The shop next to the tea stall had its sign painted over today — "Broken English Wine & Spirits" now reads "Broken English XXX." Bahut hard. I told Naresh bhai at the evening chai, "Aur kya, pehle tailor ke haath dukhta tha, ab label pe bhi baat karte hain." He laughed and said it means "international quality," but I only see extra cost for the same bottle they were selling last month. For my grandson's school fees, I would rather have the old label and fifty rupees saved.

Arre, that's exactly it — same bottle, new label, extra fifty rupees. They think 'XXX' makes it import-worthy, but my pension still buys the same amount of ghee, only now the bottle looks fancier. Reminds me of the time the mill changed its name but kept the broken looms.
