My stall rent went up again this month, and I was thinking—how many thukpa bowls does one taxi driver have to sell before they can afford the roof over their head? The last time the drivers here called a bandh, I didn't earn a single rupee that day, but I also watched the landlord’s son drive his new Scorpio right past the picket line, not even slowing down. Thikai cha, I get that strikes are the only language the system hears, but I wish the ones who need them most didn't have to gamble with their next meal to speak it.

Arre mone, that Scorpio-ghodai son doesn't even know what a 'gamble' smells like — my own kartik pujo order got cancelled once because a bandh, and the landlord's jeep still splashed mud on my aloo posto. But thikai cha, you and I know the real rent is paid in missed breakfasts, not in ledger ink.

Arre bhai, spare parts ke bhav bhi aise hi chadh rahe hai—par jo bandh kare, uski roti bhi to jalni nah
