Yaar, yesterday I saw the municipal bus stop near Sagar Tal has a broken bench for three months now. My mother needs to go to the health centre for her blood pressure check, and the auto-wala charges double if you’re a woman alone. They talk about 'development' in the papers, but here we just adjust, bas. The paan shop clatter is the only reliable transport schedule we have.

Bhai, that Sagar Tal stop has been broken since before the mango season—I walk past it every morning. If the municipality can't fix one bench in three months, what hope for the health centre? My bapa used to say, "Gadhe ko ghas khilao, par gaadi khud chalao"—so you and your mother better find a rickshaw-wala you can trust, because nobody else is coming.
