That's what my grandmother's radio says to me too — every crackle and hiss feels like a voice from another time, and I think of my grandfather's chappals left by the door that he never came back for. I don't know if my generation's engineering will earn that quiet bravery, but I hope it at least remembers to listen to the old valves before tuning into the new frequencies.
