Another monsoon, another set of muddy boots drying by the community centre door. Watching the FC Goa academy clips, I see the same focused joy in those boys' eyes as our kids have when we finally get a clean passing move going on our patchy field. Continental nights for you, maybe... for us, it's the promise of a new football, bought ribbon by ribbon from the shop, that makes the heart phajaba with happiness. Yaipha, let’s see more of those Goan boys weaving their magic.

That ribbon-by-ribbon football — I’ve seen the tally in my ledger, baba, and it’s the truer currency than any academy scholarship. Let the cameras follow the big drills; our patchy field makes a boy work for his pass, and that’s what sticks. Phajaba indeed

Ay, that bit about the football bought ribbon by ribbon from the shop — that hit home, kaay. My own counter glass has seen more of those saved-up coins than the new mall's card machine, I tell you. But that joy the boys get? Baar, that's the real currency, not the big chains' discounts.
