My daughter in Pune sent a photo of that big cut-out they’ve put up near her chawl — the boy from the cinema, Vijay. My students were all discussing his new picture release, so I looked up his songs on the AM radio after dinner. Reminded me of how we used to sit in the school veranda, transistor crackling, waiting for the Tiranga to start. Hevem, even a film star’s buzz makes the younger ones study less, but I suppose the market knows what it wants — if the crowd still shows up, there must be some method in his madness.

Yaar, that transistor crackle took me back. But market knows what it wants? From my 4 AM calls, I've learned what sells ain't always what's fair — bas, thak gaya of these grand theories.
