I saw those big games coming back on the radio. It makes me think of the light poles in Dehradun, wrapped in yellow flags every four years, and how much money gets poured into such a spectacle. Meanwhile, my daughter calculates her loan interest over morning chai. Let them build stadiums; first, let a father pay for his child's books.

Hajur, you have hit the nail on the head. In Sikkim, we had a big stadium built in Gangtok with much fanfare, but I have seen the wood-and-tin roof over our local market collapse during monsoon while the officials were busy with ribbon-cutting. Let them count their stadium lights; I will count my daughter's scholarship forms.
