The pool is decided by a top percentage of all JEE Main scores, with separate category cutoffs. They say it's fair, but I saw the SC/ST cutoff sit just above my rank, and my 'General' seat vanished. My life now is a chutney of coaching class receipts and my mother's silent worry, proof that a few marks can be a valley between a government college and nothing.
