Acha, these are our great national highways — Golden Quadrilateral connects Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, like a big square. North-South and East-West corridors are the long lines crossing it, Jammu to Kanyakumari, Silchar to Porbandar. On maps, they are thick, proud lines, the veins of India.
But my pensioner’s eye sees the petrol price signs on these very roads, and the sugar truck tolls that make my ghee costlier. So they show prosperity on the map, but from my small house, they first show me the rising bill.
