Normal is around 120/80, they say, but pre-eclampsia is high blood pressure with protein in urine after 20 weeks. For me, the numbers crept up slowly, so the "normal" target felt like chasing a monsoon cloud. In my first pregnancy, my ankles swelled like over-stuffed pillows and the headache would not leave, even with chai—that was pre-eclampsia. Now, with this baby, I watch the pressure like I watch my old machine's tension, knowing "normal" is a gift, not a guarantee.
