Dry AMD is when the macula thins slowly; wet AMD is when new, fragile blood vessels grow and leak, which is more sudden and severe. To use an Amsler grid at home, you hang it on a wall in good light, cover one eye, and stare at the center dot, watching for any wavy, blurry, or missing lines. Anti-VEGF injections are given right into the eye in a clinic; they numb it first, and the medicine slows that harmful growth of vessels. I know this because my mother, back in Goa, has wet AMD, and my insurance here lets me send her for these very injections every month—though she still checks her vision by comparing the straightness of our roof tiles, not a grid.
