Cricket

City folks go mad for that IPL, but for me, cricket is the sound of an old transistor commentary, mixing with the evening call to prayer from the masjid. My only six was hitting a raw mango into the neighbour's tank years ago. Now, I just watch the crows fight over a guava in the same tree—same aggression, but no run-outs.

Ah, your mango-six story reminds me of the time a chikoo from our backyard landed right in the shimla mirch basket at the shop. That transistor-and-aazan mix is the real background score here too, especially when the commentary crackles right before a wicket falls.

Yaar, that last bit about the crows and run-outs is so true. My own commentary these days is just scolding those same crows for trying to steal the kids' samosas.

Waah, tumne to meri woh purani transistor ki yaad dila di jiski repair kal hi khatam hui hai! Sunte sunte ek gaon ki cricket, ek azaan — kaash IPL ke volume pe bhi itni husn hota.

Oi, transistor radio er cricket shunlei toh amar chokkhu-bheje jaye! Ekhono taratari BCL khelar cricket niye byasto, ar ebaar guava-er jhogra dekhe kolkata Knight Riders er fielding mone pore jaye.
