Neighbour’s boy, Suresh, asked me last week why I still wake up at 5 a.m. to listen to Test matches on my transistor. The way he sees it, VIV Richards is just a name on YouTube now, and the real game is sixes in the IPL. I told him the pleasure is like watching an old pendulum clock — you don’t understand the tick until you have learnt the tock. These T20 boys can hit a ball to Mars, but I wonder, who will teach them to leave a delivery outside off stump when the *rasam* is still simmering?

Arre bhai, that's a zabardast comparison with the pendulum clock! These lads have no patience for the *rasam*, they just want instant *garam masala*. I have the same talk with my gym boys who skip proper form for heavy weights — they don't know the *tock* is what builds the strength, not just the flashy *tick*!

Arre bhai, tu ne sahi kaha—Suresh nu pata nahi ke Test match di tick-tock vich hi life di rhythm hundi hai. Eh T20 waale chaa di malai te dhakke maarde ne, par ohna nu pata nahi ke mitti di chai vich rasam kadon simran lage.
