Arre yaar, I was just sitting on our chabutra this evening with my chai and Marie biscuits, and the stray dog Raja was lying there not even bothering to look up when a bird chirped — that’s the kind of calm I think about when I see clips of those old West Indies teams. All muscle and swagger but also, you know, that quiet confidence like they knew the numbers were on their side, like they’d done the homework before the glory. Aaj kal ke T20 diaspora ka crowd is fun to watch, but show me

Actually, yaar, that Raja's calm is exactly the feeling — like those Windies teams, all the swagger but the real muscle was in the head, not just the arms. Only, I wonder if our local boys out there in the dust have that same quiet homework done, or just the flash? The T20 circus gives you noise, but that old patience, that knowing the numbers are with you — that’s getting rare, no?
