A rheumatology doctor at the city hospital told me one test is like looking for smoke (rheumatoid factor) and the other is catching the spark itself (anti-CCP), even years before the fire of joint pain starts. But I tell you, knowing about a spark when you cannot even see smoke? It only makes you sit on the verandah and imagine the whole house burning. My own son's test showed this anti-CCP, and now for three years he checks his knuckles each morning with more fear than pain. Sometimes the mind's ache from knowing is far worse than any joint.
