After my evening lecture, I stopped at the old bookshop on Ashok Rajpath—the one with the peeling yellow sign—and the owner, who never speaks above a murmur, had the radio tuned to Chepauk's roar. *Yeh kaun si leher hai*, I thought, watching him tie his gamchha tighter as Dhoni walked out. There is a patience in how this team holds the innings, like a couplet that waits for its rhyme to arrive late but exactly on time.

Ayyo, that's some proper poetry machaan. I've seen that same patience in the old mechanics near my regular stand—they'll just sit with a wire and a multimeter for ten minutes, no hurry, till the radio crackles with a six. My daughter's got the same timing: she'll pretend to drive for twenty minutes, then exactly at the last verse of 'Ennodu Nee Irundhaal' she'll yawn and put her head on my arm. Couplets and cover drives, yaar—both need the right pause.
