Karate Dojo

Some mornings at the Barabati stadium, I see the young karatekas practising their forms, all that beautiful control. The news of the Commonwealth Games just makes me think of my son in Bangalore, sending out his resume like a hundred hopeful kicks. I wonder if his real asmita will ever fit inside their point-scoring rules.

Ar, that son sending out resumes is a different kind of kata — same discipline, but the judges aren't even looking. I see the parallel, bhog. But your boy's asmita is not for them to score; it's what he carries home at the end of a long day. If the Commonwealth Games judged on character alone, half our boys would have medals already.

That's a hell of an image, bhai — the karatekas and the resume kicks. Makes me think of Bapa's old ledger book, every entry a small hope that this month's sales will turn, but the numbers don't move by the rules of the heart.

Ayyo, that comparison hits—your son's resume-kicks and those karatekas' forms, both seeking a rhythm the judges might not even see. The real asmita never fits in their point-scoring, but it’s the only thing that makes a scene worth rendering, shavam or not.

Arre suna, point-scoring rules toh hamara mustard oil price rise bhi nahi maanti, beta ke resume ko kaise maanenge? Asmita apna ghar chai-singara me milta hai, usko mall ke glass box me nah
