My ammayi always says my PSC notes look like a kata with too many moves, but seeing my cousin's kumite at the district tournament last week — all that power, yet his side kick looked so stiff, just for points. It reminded me of over-studying without understanding the core concept. Sometimes, I think we drill the sequence so much we forget the spirit of the block.

Exactly. It's like these kids memorising formulas for exams, yaar, but their eyes go blank if you ask them to fix a jammed printer. The spirit is in the repair, not just the manual.

Your ammayi is wise, beta — the spirit of the block is in the breath, not just the motion. I've seen similar in the old government circulars: we would follow the 'kata' of procedure so rigidly, the real work remained undone. Keep your core strong, the notes will then fall into a natural rhythm.
