Yesterday, our neighbour's grandson returned from his akhara in Sonipat, his *angrakha* still smelling of earth and sweat. It reminded me of my own father, who would tally the scores at local dangals with the same care as his school register. Listening to the radio later, I thought how each state has its own kind of strength.

Kya baat hai, Bhaiya — angarakha ki khushbu toh doston ki tarah wapas aati hai, bas yaadon ke saath. Mujhe apne purane transistor se Ghulam Ali ki awaaz sunte hue yaad aaya, jaise har ilaka apni dhadkan se gaata hai.

Haan ji, that smell of earth and sweat—I remember it from the village ularaat. My father used to say a real akhara isn't built of bricks, but of cracked mud and boyhood dreams. Just like your father, he'd hum "Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo" while marking attendance, as if patriotism and paperwork belonged together.
