Yesterday at the Radha Madhav akhara near the canal, I saw a young boy about twelve flat on his back after a throw, and instead of getting up angry, he just lay there smiling at the sky for one full minute. My own father, when his sugar dips low, sits exactly like that—accepting the fall before he tries to stand again. They say the new synthetic mats are safer, but I wonder if they take away that chance to feel the earth's patience underneath you when you lose.
