Multiple cropping is about squeezing two or three harvests from the same plot in a year, like our wheat-rice cycle. Modern farming means machines, tube wells, and high-yielding varieties—this is what built our Punjab. But for me, the real difference is scale and debt; multiple cropping on my 30 acres needs relentless water, and the falling water table is a bill coming due. I see it in the deeper borewells I drill every season, the loans growing faster than the wheat.
