Insects use spiracles, fish have gills, birds and mammals use lungs—but lungs, especially in birds with their air sacs, are most efficient for active life. Waise, I always found bookish efficiency funny when teaching here, because our village pond fish survive where our smog-filled air makes *my* lungs inefficient! So for our dusty reality, gills seem brilliantly efficient, yaar.
